Using the OData Analytics API

The Analytics API uses the Odata protocol to support integration of register data with most business intelligence tools.

By using an OData API to pull data from the Logiqc quality management system and display it on a live dashboard in Power BI, you get a powerful, standardized, and efficient way to gain valuable insights. This is all thanks to OData's design as an open, REST-based protocol, which is perfect for querying and sharing data.

Key Benefits of Using an OData API with Logiqc and Power BI 📊

Standardized and Simple Data Access

OData, or the Open Data Protocol, provides a uniform way to query and interact with data. This eliminates the need for complex, custom integrations. Since it's a standard, platforms like Power BI have built-in connectors that can easily consume OData feeds. This simplifies the connection process, allowing you to focus on analyzing data rather than building complex data pipelines.

Efficient Data Retrieval

OData allows for enhanced query capabilities. Instead of pulling the entire dataset every time, you can use OData query options to filter, sort, and select only the specific data you need. For example, you can use $filter to get only high-priority incidents or $select to retrieve just the 'incident ID' and 'creation date' columns. This significantly reduces the data load, making dashboards faster and more responsive, which is critical for real-time analysis.

Real-Time and Live Dashboards

By using an OData API, you can establish a live connection between Logiqc and Power BI. This means your dashboard will always display the most current data without manual intervention. Instead of exporting and importing static data files, Power BI can refresh the data directly from the Logiqc system at scheduled intervals, ensuring your reports are always up-to-date for timely decision-making.

Security and Scalability

OData APIs typically use standard web security protocols like HTTPS, ensuring a secure connection for data transfer. Additionally, because you're only pulling the data you need, the process is more scalable and less taxing on the Logiqc system compared to full data dumps. This ensures that your business intelligence efforts don't negatively impact the performance of your core quality management system.

The Analytics API must first be configured in your platform by our engineers before the System Administrator can go ahead and set up the data feed.

Instructions to setup the data-feed

Setting up the Odata user account requires administrative permissions. Learn more

Step 1:  Once Logiqc has released the feature, log in to your platform, enter Admin mode and navigate to the Users menu.

Change the password of the  Odata Reader user account.

Learn more here: Updating your password

Step 2:  In your BI tool (eg.eg. Power BI, Excel, Tableau), 'get data' using the odata feed option establish the connection to your platform. Enter the following address: https://<YourLogiqcQMSURL>/odata

Step 3: Use ‘basic authentication’ method to connect to the LogiqcQMS Odata feed with the following credentials:

    • Username = odata
    • The password you created in Step 1.

Note: A maximum of 3 unique connections are permitted.

Once connected you will have access to multiple register and related table feeds as defined in the attached data dictionary.
