System-generated version numbers are created each time a document is uploaded. Version numbers are decimal numbers comprising a whole number part (located to the left of the decimal point) and a fractional part (located to the right of the decimal point), such as 1.1. Published versions are displayed as a single whole number (eg. 1.0) while draft versions uploaded prior to approval are assigned a fractional part (eg. 1.1 or 1.2).
A draft version is a file awaiting approval. For example, View document can show published version 1.0 alongside draft version 1.1.
The draft number identifies the pending file version; it is not a count of every review or approval of the document record.
Q: Do I need to set a number when uploading a new version?
A: No. The Add new version section has no manual version-number field. Logiqc manages the numbering. Set initial version number is available only when you first add the document.
Q: Can I keep my document's existing version numbers?
A: Yes. When uploading a document for the first time, use Set initial version number to align Logiqc's starting number with the version number in your file. After the first upload, Logiqc manages file-version numbering; you do not enter a new number for each update.
Q: Why doesn't the Logiqc version number match the version number in my file?
A: Logiqc tracks file versions separately from the filename or any version number written inside the file, so the numbers may differ. It is not a count of all workflow approvals. Use Set initial version number on the first upload to align the starting numbers. Reviewing or approving a record again without a new file does not necessarily change the published file version.
How version numbering works
The View document section shows the published file and any draft separately. In the example below, the published file is version 1.0 and the draft is version 1.1.
Published versions are displayed as whole-number versions, such as 1.0 or 2.0. A new draft is a different file version awaiting approval; reviewing or approving an unchanged file does not necessarily increase the published version number.
The published document is version 1.0, so the draft is designated version 1.1.

- Identifies the approved file version
- Displayed as 1.0, 2.0 and so on
- Does not count every workflow approval
Set initial version number
The Set initial version number field appears under Upload document when you add a document for the first time. Use it to align Logiqc's starting version number with a number already used in your file. The field is not available under Add new version; later file versions are numbered by Logiqc, not manually entered here.
